Hi, I’m Céline, an illustrator with a master’s in social psychology. Welcome to Human Nature.

These days most people know me as an illustrator, but not as many are aware that I’ve also studied psychology. It’s probably because I didn’t like to talk about it much. When I was starting out, I wanted to be taken seriously as an illustrator. So I decided to bury my dark past, hoping to never see it reemerge.

But, over time I realised I was actually thankful for my psychology knowledge. Studying psychology helped me understand why people sometimes do seemingly incomprehensible things, that we’re not the perfect rational beings we like to think we are, and what our true needs are as humans. So, I decided to reconcile my past and present in the form of a newsletter, the most powerful of all information sharing tools. I present to you:

Human Nature, a bi-weekly illustrated psychology newsletter with bite-sized articles.

P.S. I also write Drawing Nature, a companion newsletter where I talk about my illustration process (more on this below).

Why subscribe?

Get psychology facts delivered straight into your inbox

Every other Tuesday, I’ll send you psychology concepts and findings that I find the most fascinating and have had the biggest influence on the way I understand myself and others.

Have interesting discussions with a like-minded community

One of the best parts of studying psychology were the long discussions I had with friends after leaving the lecture theatre. Although I’m no lecturer, the comments section is a great place to discuss the concepts and findings being shared.

Be inspired

Each article is accompanied by an illustration that I make exclusively for the newsletter, with guest illustrators also occasionally lending their talent.

Do I have to pay?

No, Human Nature is completely free. But if you want to and are able to contribute a few pounds a month, I’d really appreciate it. Researching, writing and illustrating this Substack takes a significant amount of time, and your support helps keep it going.

Being a paid subscriber also gives you access to to Drawing Nature, the companion newsletter to Human Nature where I talk about my illustration process. So whether that’s more your thing or you just want to support Human Nature, consider becoming a paid subscriber. I also accept donations.

What is Drawing Nature?

Drawing Nature is the irregular companion newsletter to Human Nature. Here, I talk about the process behind my Substack illustrations and my thoughts on illustrating and drawing in general. This is where I share sketches, dive into my process, and think critically about my own work.

So if you’re interested in the illustration side of things, this is for you, and if not, you can simply carry on reading Human Nature. For more info on Drawing Nature, read this post.

This is starting to sound like a lot of emails

Don’t worry, as I mentioned previously, this is an irregular companion newsletter. Rather than keeping to a strict schedule, I write Drawing Nature when I have something interesting to say. This helps me both to hold on to my sanity and to keep your inbox clutter-free (at least from me). But you can generally expect to receive posts on Tuesdays.
